About

Join us in conversation with Robert Thompson, director at Ackee Workshop.

Robert Thompson, a Jamaican-born architect, has cultivated a career deeply rooted in the principles of responsible building practices, with a special focus on hillside living. After earning his first degree in architecture from the Caribbean School of Architecture in Jamaica, Robert's journey took him to Trinidad and Tobago, where he contributed to the local architectural landscape from 2005 to 2007. Seeking further expertise and international exposure, he then moved to Germany in 2007 to pursue a Master’s of Architecture, completing the program in 2009.

Robert's professional trajectory reflects a commitment to environmentally conscious practices, as seen in his work between Germany and Switzerland from 2009 to 2010. Returning to Trinidad in 2010, he established Ackee Workshop in 2015, with a specific focus on responsible hillside living. The mission of Ackee Workshop aligns with Robert's dedication to creating authentic, transformative surroundings, while aiming to increase the accessibility of thoughtful architecture across socio-economic boundaries

The Emerging Practice Lecture Series is a collaboration between Island City Lab and the Caribbean Architecture Students Association.
